The challenge
On short distance flights a propeller-engine may be more efficient than a jet-engine. In an overall analysis however the effectiveness of a propeller is not satisfying. Propeller operation is combined with many unwanted side-effects such as noise, vibrations and the lack of fuel economy. How can the propeller's efficiency be improved?
The invention
The RES-Propeller combines the radial propeller blades with a circular, ring-shaped propeller blade, connecting the blade tips of the radial blades. During operation the propeller accelerates the incoming air stream, causing an abrupt depression of the incoming flow within the plane of rotation. Therefore a widening of the upstream and a tapering of the downstream can be observed as a result of the rotating propeller blades. According tothis effect incident flow attacks the ring-shaped airfoil with a conical angle of incidence, causing a rotation impulse on the overall surface of the circular rotor blade and a suction force in the direction of flight.
The advantages
- Improving the efficiency of a propeller by 25%
- Introducing a silent propeller propulsion
- Reducing vibration by equal propulsion energy within the rotor cycle
- Increasing the speed of a propeller plane
The applications
- All kinds of airplanes, other vehicles such as hovercrafts and airships
- Introducing an effective propeller for a vessel
